The 42-year-old Brazilian Gang Leader who made headlines worldwide on Monday after attempting to escape Prison by disguising himself as his teen-age daughter has died.
Clauvino De Silva, 42 was found dead in his cell at the Maximum Security Prison in Rio De Janeiro in an apparent suicide by hanging according to local media reports.
The suicide came just two days after he was nabbed rocking a wig, a silicone mask, and other female clothing on Sunday in his attempt to escape prison using his teenage daughter’s disguise.
The Drug dealer and gangster, who was popularly referred to as ‘Shorty’ due to his short stature was re-arrested after the Police officers manning the Prison noticed his nervousness during the attempted escape.
De Silva was serving a prison sentence of up to 74 years in the Maximum facility for drugs smuggling according to reports.
Meanwhile, the Officers are probing the Sunday incident to see whether his family and relatives played role in supplying to him the disguise paraphernalia including the silicone mask, wig, bra and other female clothing items he had used in his attempted escape.
However, the Sunday prison escape attempt was not his first as in 2013, himself together with 30 other inmates escaped the Prison using a sewer manhole.
However, a few days later, he was later caught and brought back to Prison.
His death has come a week after a fight between rival gang groups doing time in the Prison broke out, leaving over 56 dead and hundreds injured with 17 of them losing different body organs.
Brazil media reports suspect foul play in De Silva’s murder, reporting that De Silva could have attempted to escape the prison due to the gang rival-related fights, adding that he was likely murdered by his rivals and his death later presented as a suicide.
