Over the past few weeks, there has been a debate as to whether or not Kenyans are entitled to paying the recently imposed 1.5% Housing levy.
Whereas the government has defended the idea claiming that it is in sync with the Big Four Agenda which incorporates Affordable Housing, a good number of taxpayers are opposed to the idea since the government can never be in the business of constructing houses and mostly because they do not trust the government.
The Government now claims that those Kenyans who will not have gotten a house by 2034 will be refunded off the money they paid for the Housing Levy.
Speaking during a Radio interview with Radio Maisha on Monday morning, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena claimed that anyone who will have paid the Housing tax and not have gotten a house in 15 years will be refunded their money back by the government.
Kanze defended the move by the government claiming that it was reached so as to provide Kenyan with better and dignified roofs over their heads.
The State House Spokesperson also defended President Kenyatta’s exit from social media platforms stating that Uhuru Kenyatta’s social media accounts were his personal accounts and as such, he is the only one with the right to d
de-activate and re-activate them as he pleases.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta’s social media accounts are his personal accounts. He has the right to activate or de-activate them as he wills. He has his reasons and we respect that.”
She said during the interview.
She also confirmed that the President was around carrying out his professional duties to the country.
“The President is around. It doesn’t mean that because he is off the limelight, he is not there. He has an office where he goes to work every morning and he is currently working on several issues.”
This came after Kenyans started an online search for their President who has not been seen or heard since he came back from China a fortnight ago.
Kanze Dena further denied reports that China had declined to give Kenya an additional 368 Billion for the extension of the SGR to Kisumu, stating that that was not the information State House Communications Team had given to the Press.
She further dismissed reports that she was not seeing eye to eye with State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, adding that they have the same goal and serve under the pleasure of the President.
Previously, Principal Secretary for, State Department for Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga, while on national television had claimed that the government was going to use a lottery so as to determine the winner of the house once they were complete-which is literally gambling on your tax!
