A Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) first year student was stabbed by armed robbers while on her way home after she refused to hand over her personal belongings to them.
Tabitha Muthoni was walking home with another female friend at around 8:00 PM on Thursday evening when thugs accosted her and her friend near Seagull Hotel in Juja.
The thugs demanded for their mobile phones and her friend complied. However, Tabitha hesitated leading to a commotion which led to her being stabbed on the left side of her neck before the thugs ran away.
Luckily, Tabitha’s friend managed to run away hence escaping uninjured.
Tabitha was then rushed to the JKUAT Hospital where she succumbed to the injuries due to loss of too much blood.
This has led to the Jomo Kenyatta University Students Association, JKUSA announcing a demonstration on Friday to demand for better security in the area.
In a memo signed by JKUSA officials, the students have been asked to congregate at the University’s Gate B from where the demos will begin.
There has been numerous cases of extortion and day-light robbery in the institution with similar issues being brought up by Juja residents in the recent past.
Within a span of three months, four JKUAT students have died in the hands of the gangsters who thrive in stealing electronics such as mobile phones and students’ laptops.
NT.co.ke has also learned that there is a special group of female gangsters who are targeting and robbing the female students in the area.
Other students have stated that there are some parts of the institution that one cannot pass through after 6:30 PM in the evening.
