TRADERS COUNT LOSSES AFTER A FIRE RAZED DOWN STALLS IN GIKOMBA MARKET, NAIROBI

Traders are counting millions in losses after a late evening fire razzed down a part of Gikomba Market in Nairobi on Wednesday evening.

The firefighters responded swiftly managing to contain the fire before it caused more damage.

There were no casualties in the evening fire and its cause is yet to be determined.

Questions have been raised concerning the annual Gikomba fires that have been happening in the recent past with many believing that the fires are with motive.

The Wednesday fire was the 7th fire incident in only 5 years. This comes after the government released funds for developing the market into a modern stall market in 2018.

The Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had also promised to build a modern market in Gikomba as a way to thwart the annual fires.

The Gikomba fire has come just a day after another fire broke out in Kangemi’s Sodom area in Nairobi.
